More graduate jobseekers 'turn to social networking'
Social networking sites are increasingly being used by graduates looking for jobs, it has been revealed.
According to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, the sites can be used by both recruiters and candidates to find out about would-be staff and employers.
Brandi Milton, coordinator of corporative education at the institution's career centre, commented that employers might be tempted to use Facebook to find out about a candidate's personality, what they do in their personal life or community service involvement.
"It might help to have two profiles; one for your close friends and a professional page. Use the privacy and filter options to control who can see your page or comment," she suggested.
Last week CILT, the National Centre for Languages, commented that candidates looking for sales jobs could be putting themselves at a disadvantage in the international employment market if they lack language skills.
Chief executive at the group Kathryn Board added that multilingual skills are also important for the UK's economic prosperity and security.
