University 'improves chances of sales recruitment success'

Gaining qualifications at university can put people ahead in the race for sales recruitment, according to an industry expert.

Minister for higher education David Lammy said that employment rates for graduates continue to be higher than for those with lower qualifications.

Commenting on recent research from the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR), Mr Lammy said that the government is currently working hard to show that real opportunities in sales jobs are available to them, including work, further study, volunteering and internships.

The statistics from the AGR showed that vacancies in 2009 fell by only 8.9 per cent, rather than the 24.9 per cent predicted, suggesting that graduate recruitment is recovering well from the effects of the recession.

"Internships are a great way for graduates to kick start their careers by gaining the valuable skills and work experience at a time when they face a more competitive job market. We currently have over 6,500 vacancies including over 4,000 that are paid, advertised on our Graduate Talent Pool website," added Mr Lammy.
