Graduate sales recruits 'not penalised' by taking a year out

Graduate sales recruits are unlikely to be penalised for taking a year out from studies, and many may benefit from doing so, one sector body has claimed.

As millions of A-level students receive their results today, Carl Gilleard, chief executive of the Association of Graduate Recruiters, said that some whose results are not up to scratch may be keen to travel the world for 12 months before going to university, although some may fear this could hamper their efforts to find employment after the course.

However, he pointed out that this is not necessarily the case, with many employers likely to look favourably on a candidate who has life experience and worldly knowledge when it comes to graduate recruitment.

"My advice for school leavers that miss out on a place this year is to get some broader experience - either in the workplace or by volunteering - which will help strengthen their application to university next time around," Mr Gilleard added.

Recently, Christine Hodgson, writing for Human Resources Magazine, pointed out that giving prospective employees a taste of work experience can light the spark needed to fire them to sales recruitment success.

Aaron Wallis offer graduate sales jobs across a wide range of industry sectors. For Employers, Aaron Wallis offer a unique Assessment Centre solution and graduate sales recruitment service backed by a 12 month rebate period.
